Residents in the Milford area are being asked to check their home heating oil tanks for leaks after traces of oil were found in the sewer.
Donegal County Council and Irish Water have made a joint announcement today, calling on homeowners to immediately inspect their home heating oil tanks and associated pipework for any signs of leaks or damage.
An oil leak into septic tanks and sewerage works can affect wastewater treatment and increase the risk of environmental contamination.
Homeowners are asked to “rectify any issues found as a matter of urgency”.
