St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny will hold a special Mass this Friday to commemorate the life of Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of 88.
The cathedral will host a second Rosary service led by the Legion of Mary this Thursday, April 24th, at 7 pm.
A Special Mass will take place on Friday, 25th April at 8 pm, offered for the happy repose of his soul.
The events at St Eunan’s Cathedral offer the local community an opportunity to come together in prayer and remembrance for Pope Francis.
On the death of the Pope on Easter Monday, Monsignor Kevin Gillespie, Diocesan Administrator of the Raphoe Diocese, said: “The diocesan community is asked to join their prayers with the prayers of the whole Church that the Lord may receive him kindly into the fullness of the Kingdom, show him the mercy he preached with such conviction and forthrightness and grant him eternal rest. We give thanks to God for his witness to the most fundamental spiritual and human values in a world where unjust economies and wars have created personal dramas that Pope Francis insisted must be addressed with compassion and generosity. Pope Francis leaves the Church a legacy that directs all the People of God to work together to build up the Community of Faith and bear more effective witness to Christian hope. I measc na naomh go raibh sé.”
The funeral of Pope Francis takes place this Saturday, 26 April 2025.
