Donegal County Council has been asked to consider digital safety signage near the busy Barrack Crossroads in Glenswilly to prevent accidents near a local pre-school.
Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly says there have been numerous accidents in the area to date and he fears for the children at a nearby outdoor play school on the R250.
He has called on the council to do more to make motorists aware of a hidden dip in the road.
“I’ve witnessed two occasions where a car swerved to avoid other cars and landed in a garden,” Cllr Kelly told the April meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District.
Cllr Kelly said he was thankful that none of the accidents have been overly serious so far.
He said: “We need digital signage to make motorists aware not to pass because there is a hidden dip ahead. These signs would be a great deterrent, particularly for those not used to the area.
“On top of that, you have the outdoor playschool and they are out rain, hail or snow, God forbid something would happen. We need to move on this and act on it.”
In response to the motion, Donegal County Council said it would assess this location to consider what measures are required and appropriate.
Cllr Kelly welcomed the answer and urged the council to look into acquiring low-cost accident funding for the signage.
