Planning permission has been approved for a new apartment block in the centre of Letterkenny.
The proposed six-storey development, named River View, will consist of 30 new apartments, located at the junction of Paddy Harte Road and the Pearse Road – opposite the site of McDonalds.
Planning permission had applied for by Gerald McCallion on behalf of Glenturas Construction Limited, care of O’Connor Burke Architecture Limited of Glenturas House, Beraghmore Road, Derry.
An appeal against the development had been submitted to An Bord Pleanala in November by John Larkin on behalf of Larkins Commercial Business Units of Pearse Road, Letterkenny, County Donegal and by others.
It’s understood that a number of local business owners were opposed to the plans.
However An Bord Pleanala rejected the appeal and granted conditional planning permission for the construction, saying that “…it provides residential accommodation in the town centre in accordance with the Plan for the area and sets an appropriate context for the future development of the area” in its decision.
As part of its decision, An Bord Pleanala noted that all two bed apartments in the proposed development must be made available as social housing.
