An online fundraising drive to help rebuild St Mary’s Church, Derrybeg, has raised almost €6,500 in one hour.
The beautiful structure was destroyed in a devastating fire in the early hours of yesterday morning, despite a brave battle by five units of the Fire Service.
Local community group, Coiste Forbartha Dhobair, set up a GoFundMe page just over an hour ago.
To date, over €6,500 has been raised of its €9,000 target.
Yesterday, Paróiste Ghaoth Dobhair proclaimed ‘We will rebuild our Church’.
“We are a resilient community and will stand together to support one another in this moment of deep grief and sorrow,” the statement read.
“We will rebuild our church with a renewed hope for a brighter future.”
