DWL 9 aside Match Reports 14/04/2025
Bonagee United 5-0 Drumbar United
The home side started off as the stronger side, with most of the football being played in Drumbars half for the majority of the half. But the Drumbar defense of Jennifer McGinty and Tegan O’Reilly were making things very difficult for Hannah Hopkins and Orla Malseed. A number of shots were hit, but Drumbar goalkeeper Varvara Khobta kept it all level. Hannah Hopkins played a nice cross to find Siobhan Sweeney, who slotted home from close range to make it 1-0. A few minutes later, Hannah Hopkins again played a nice ball across to find Orla McBride, and she made no mistake this time and fired home to make it 2-0 at halftime. The away side got through with Jodie Walker working very hard for the away side to try to create chances for the team, but Bonagee’s back line was proven difficult to break down. Leah Boyle got through for the away side on what looked like it was going to be a one-on-one, but only for Bonagee defender Catherine Grier to break it down. Eva Harvey had some great battles against strong winger Shauna Brogan of the away side, but Eva Harvey did very well in all challenges. Bonagee made a good few changes in the second half, with Niamh Walsh grabbing 2 goals and Eimear Sweeney grabbing a goal also. Game finished 5-0 to the home side
Raphoe Town 1-1 Kildrum Tigers
A cracking goal from Serena McCrossan earned Kildrum a well-deserved share of the spoils in a hard-fought game at Drumineny on Monday night. The home side had the bulk of the possession and the best of what few chances there were, but the visitors battled hard for the hour and got their reward when they scored an equaliser with just 8 minutes left to play.
There was little between the sides throughout, Raphoe coming close when Keeley Boyle hit the post in the first half and then Lauren O’Donnell and Vanessa McHugh fired inches wide of the post, but despite dominating the game, Raphoe couldn’t find a breakthrough, and the sides went in level at the break. A reshuffled team saw the home side come out with purpose at the start of the second half, and their pressure paid off when Rachel Lawne’s low cross was steered into the net by Sarah Doherty, despite the best efforts of Kildrum’s Angela Devlin to hack the ball off the line. With Lauren Lynch keeping her team battling, Kildrum got their rewards when a free kick was cleared to Serena McCrossan, and her first-time shot from distance flew past Aimee Kelly in the Raphoe goal. The home side rallied again, Orlaith Connolly, Rocha McCullagh, and Vanessa McHugh all pressing for Raphoe, but despite all the late pressure and a series of corners, they were unable to find a winner. Raphoe were perfect from the spot in the shootout at the end, but Kildrum can be well pleased with their performance on the night and a hard-fought point.
Fanad United 3-0 Lagan Harps
The long-awaited return to Trialough saw Fanad Ladies make a triumphant home debut in front of their supporters, securing a solid 3-0 win over Lagan in challenging windy conditions. The first half was a tight affair, with both sides struggling to get into rhythm and play. Chances were limited, and the teams went in at the break level. Fanad came out firing in the second half, and it didn’t take long to break the deadlock. A perfectly weighted pass from Michelle Doherty sent Shannon McBride through to calmly slot home the opener. Fanad kept the pressure on, and Shannon McBride soon had her second after a clever flick from Hannah Shiels opened up the Lagan defence. Just minutes later, Mary-Bridget McGeever launched a kickout to Ciara Bell, who found Hannah with a lovely ball, and she made no mistake, firing home to round off a fantastic team goal and a 3-0 lead. Lagan looked to build through Nadine Crawford in the midfield, but she was expertly contained by Rachel Friel and Clodagh Heron throughout the game however, she did unleash a powerful effort to test Mary-Bridget, but she was equal to it, preserving Fanad’s clean sheet. With both Fanad goalkeepers impressing and the defence standing strong, the side maintains its unbeaten run and is yet to concede. A well-earned break next week for the ladies with the bank holiday next up, an away trip to Drumbar!
Keadue Rovers 1-0 Deele Harps
Keadue Rovers ladies team hosted their 1st league game in over 20 years on a glorious evening in front of a big home crowd. Keadue started much brighter, on the front foot from the first whistle, and moved the ball well, particularly on the right wing, where Kate Gillespie was impressive and got in a few crosses, which were dealt with by the Deele defence. After 6 minutes, the good play on the right side led to a cross into the box, and Amy Hanna rifled home from close range to the delight of the crowd. The home side were on top after the first fifteen minutes but found Deele keeper Louise Coyle in great form as she parried away a few shots. Deele pressed up more as the half went on, with Jenny Patterson and Caoimhe Haughey proving good outlets from through balls. Keadue still had chances to increase the lead before the break, but it remained a 1-goal game by the whistle. In the second half, Deele came more into the game, pressing forward with Rebecca McColgan pushing forward, while Keadue hit Deele regularly on the break with some excellent work in midfield by Katie O’Donnell, driving forward and creating chances for Amy Hanna, while Katie O’Donnell herself was also through on goal, but again Louise Coyle had a number of superb saves to keep Deele in the game right until the end. Keadue prevailed 1-0 and good value for the 3 points with an excellent squad performance, while for Deele, it was a good team performance on a night that they traveled a long distance. Keadue wishes Deele all the best for the season ahead. Referee : Kyron Glennon.

Gweedore United 2-0 Glenea United
This local derby, played on a bitterly cold evening in Carrickboyle, saw the home side collect all three points after a dominant display. The game started evenly, but Gweedore, playing with the aid of the breeze, settled well after the first 10 minutes and had a number of chances to take the lead, but Elianne McFadden in the Glenea goals did excellently on each occasion. Gweedore took the lead on 20 minutes when Ciara McFadden won the ball from a Glenea goal kick and fed Brianna Ferry on the edge of the area, and Ferry struck a wonderful effort from twenty yards which went in off the post, giving McFadden no chance in the Glenea goal. Gweedore pushed for the second, and on 38 minutes, Ciara McFadden shot from 20 yards, and the shot looked destined for the net only for Elianne McFadden to pull off a magnificent save to keep the score at one nil. Gweedore had a number of other chances through Lucie Boyd, Lilly Rodgers, and Emma Wallace but could not find the elusive second goal. 1-0 HT In the second half and with the breeze to their back Glenea started well but with Katelyn McFadden and Eva Diver in defence for Gweedore they struggled to get past them to trouble Nuala Doherty in the Gweedore goal. Milford United 0-0 Mulroy Academy
As usual with the local derby between Milford and Mulroy, there wasn’t much to separate the teams. With the wind behind them in the first half, Mulroy pressed Milford, giving them no time on the ball and snapping into every tackle. With Aisling Duffy delivering dangerous balls into the box from corners and Amy McAteer playing some great through balls, Milford were happy to be going in at the break on level terms. Milford came more into the game in the second half but weren’t able to test Mary Brigid in the Mulroy goal. Megan McGinley kept Milford in the game in the second half with three great saves.
