Donegal Gardaí got their Bank Holiday road safety campaign underway this morning.
The initiative will remain in place until 7am on Tuesday.
Gardaí will be out in force around the county, focusing on offences such as speeding, phone use, and driving under the influence.
Six people have died already so far in the first four months of this year on the county’s roads.
However, last year was a particularly bad year. The county recorded one of the highest number of road deaths in Ireland, according to statistics published by the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
Seventeen people lost their lives on roads here in 2024, up from ten in 2023.
That number of fatalities was the highest in Co Donegal since 2010 when 19 people perished on the county’s roads.
