A man has pleaded guilty to assaulting his heavily pregnant ex-partner and causing her harm.
Jake O’Dwyer appeared before Donegal Circuit Court in relation to the incident on June 3, 2024 in Culdaff.
The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing harm, contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
O’Dwyer was put in the witness box by his barrister, Mr Peter Nolan BL.
The accused man, who is in custody at Castlerea Prison, confirmed to the court that he was aware of bail conditions.
He told Judge John Aylmer that he would not contact the woman. O’Dwyer, who now has an address in County Kilkenny, said he was familiar with the other bail conditions and would also abide by these.
Mr Nolan sought the preparation of a probation and welfare report, which he said would be “of great assistance to the court”. He told the court that O’Dwyer has no previous convictions.
Judge Aylmer adjourned the case until the October sitting of Letterkenny Circuit Court. He said that a probation and welfare report should include an assessment on O’Dwyer’s suitability for community service.
