Two south Donegal men have pleaded guilty to their part in a serious assault in Ardara.

Mark Bonner and Eoin Kitterick appeared before Donegal Circuit Court in connection with an incident at Front Street, Ardara on June 7, 2021.

Bonner, aged 23 and of Derryhenny, Doochary, pleaded guilty to assaulting Joseph Melly and causing him harm. The charge is contrary to section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Kitterick, a 24-year-old, with an address at Lough Head, Portnoo, tendered a guilty plea to assaulting Mr Melly, a charge contrary to section 2 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

The pair were formally arranged before Judge John Aylmer.

Barrister for Bonner, Mr Simon Gillespie BL, said his client is a 23-year-old who suffered tragedy in his life with the death of his mother and also two close friends.

Mr Damien Crawford BL, barrister for Kitterick, asked for an adjournment for the preparation of a probation report.

He said Kitterick is an apprentice carpenter and said he was anxious for the court to get an “overview” of the matter.

Judge Aylmer adjourned the case until December and sought a probation and welfare report, to include suitability for community service, in the case of each accused.
