St Michael’s GAA are hosting two fundraising events on Easter Saturday to fund the cancer treatment of a young local girl.
Cassie Sheridan was diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma in 2022 at the age of 10, at St Michael’s have organised a 5k walk/run as well as a coffee morning.
Young Cassie did enter remission briefly following her initial treatment in 2022, but after the cancer returned she has been receiving ongoing treatment since 2023.
Cassie is required to go to Utrecht in the Netherlands for the next step of her treatment, a bone marrow transplant which is no longer available in Ireland.
Her eldest brother Michael will be Cassie’s donor for the surgery – a surgery which will then require six months of medical care in the Netherlands to recover from.
This fundraiser was launched by the St Michael’s club to help assist her family, and fund the logistics of having her treatment in the Netherlands for a prolonged period of time.
The 5k walk/run gets underway from The Bridge, Dunfanaghy at 11am on Saturday the 19th of April, with registration at the clubhouse from 10am. The coffee morning will be held following the 5k.
