Three Donegal students have won top prizes in this year’s 71st Texaco Children’s Art Competition.
They were: Sadhbh Ní Bhrógáin Ní Cheallaigh (age 6), a pupil at Gaelscoil na gCeithre Máistrí in Donegal Town; Charles (Dominic) Gallagher (7) from St. Mary’s National School, Castlefin and Kerri Doherty (16) from Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town.
All were winners of Special Merit Awards for artworks that Final Adjudicator – Irish visual artist, curator and educator – Pauline O’Connell, said ‘displayed high levels of skill and creativity.’

No stranger to the Competition, Kerri won second prize in the 14-15 year age category last year, third prize in the 12-13 year age category in 2022 and a Special Merit Award in 2023. Also a previous winner, Charles (Dominic) won second prize in the 6 years and under age category in both 2024 and 2023.

The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with an unbroken history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955. This year, as has been the case throughout its life, it has been a platform on which young artists from Donegal and counties throughout Ireland have had their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
