Gardaí have issued practical advice for anyone planning to head out socialising over the upcoming Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
The Easter Bank Holiday usually marks one of the busiest weekends of the year, and as such Gardaí in Donegal will be enacting a special policing plan to help keep members of the public safe.
They have also issued the following advice to help everyone on your night out keep safe.
You are advised to:
- Plan your night out, tell someone where you are going & when you’ll be back.
- Book a taxi in advance or designate a driver.
- Don’t let your friends or family walk home alone, there is safety in numbers.
- If you have to walk, stick to well-lit areas and make sure you can be seen by passing traffic (reflective gear/torch).
- Take care when carrying personal property (handbag, smart phone, cash etc.) in crowded areas, keep them in a safe location within your view.
- Watch out for pickpockets in crowded areas; Keep handbags zipped and don’t keep your wallet in your back pocket.
- In bars and restaurants, be careful about where you store coats and handbags.
- Park your car in a secure/well-lit area. Ensure that your car is locked. Do not keep valuables such as cash, jewellery or electronics in your car.
Gardaí have also urged the public not to hesitate in contacting them if assistance is required, with crews out on patrol and on the beat in many areas of Donegal this weekend.
