Last Sunday saw a large number of juvenile athletes who travelled to Finn Valley AC for a very well run Donegal Children’s Games, U12 and Combined Event Championships.
Competing against Donegal athletes from across the various clubs, it was an exciting day of athletics. Plenty of medals and PBs were had. A special thanks to our coaches, officials and parents/volunteers on the day, without every one of you, the event would not have happened. The future is really bright and the juveniles on the day were the stars of the show. Well done to each and every one of you who put in fantastic performances and did your coaches and clubs proud. There was also a Combined Events (5 events – hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and 800m). It was great to see Evan Ward, Aileen Logue and Aaliyah Gallagher trying this out and they all enjoyed the day.

Saturday last saw the inaugural Balor Multi Sport Race where four Rosses men competed with David McKelvey and Declan Gallagher in the solo event and Fergal McGee and Ken Bates in the team events. formed part of two 3 person teams. All day David had been on or within touching distance of the podium place, keeping company with some very high calibre accomplished athletes, and he was very much at home. He was looking forward to the final stage as he felt this run would be one of his strengths but unfortunately a mechanical failure put an end to his day. Declan Gallagher again showed he is a serious competitor and was right in the mix but unfortunately suffered stomach problems and had to withdraw. Well done also to Fergal and Ken who were part of teams who competed well.
At the European half marathon in Leuven Belgium, Emily Bonner headed to run and soak up the atmosphere at the European road running championships. Emily is consistently strong over this distance and again put in a brilliant performance to finish in 1:42:08.
