The Donegal Firefighters Association (DFA) has thanked its members who bravely battled a number of wildfires around the county over the past week.
They also took the opportunity to thank the public for their support following major blazes in Kerrykeel, Knockalla, Barnesmore Gap, and in the Finn Valley.
“As the long-awaited rain finally returns to Donegal, we want to take a moment to express our deepest appreciation to all DFA members – our brave fire service personnel – who gave everything over the past number of days, battling multiple gorse and forest fires across the county,” a spokesperson for the DFA said.
“From Kerrykeel to Knockalla, Barnesmore, Ballybofey and Stranorlar, fire crews worked tirelessly through smoke, heat, and exhaustion to protect our people, homes, and environment. Your courage and resilience were nothing short of heroic.

“A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful locals in Kerrykeel, who showed such generosity with tea, sandwiches, and warm words – it meant the world to us. And to Burger Jacks in Milford, thank you for your incredible gesture in offering to feed our crews – your support was a powerful reminder of the community spirit that binds us all.
“Backed by five fire units and aerial support from Executive Helicopters, together we faced fires that pushed us to the limit. And now, as the rain begins to fall and the land starts to heal, we simply want to say: thank you.
“To our firefighters, to our communities, and to everyone who stood with us – your support, kindness, and strength got us through.”
