Ardara’s famous Anonymous Art Auction raised more than €3,000 for two local charities at the weekend.
Organised by Claire Molloy, it featured over 60 pieces of beautiful artwork by both known artists and local people.
The unique event was held in Nancy’s Bar on Saturday to raise much needed funds for Ardara Community Childcare Ltd and The Ardara Men’s Shed.
Speaking to Donegal Daily, Claire said they had a ‘wonderfully entertaining’ night with bids coming from the floor, and online.
“A fantastic night was had and all the pieces of artwork were sold,” she said.
There was one special late addition from renowned Glenties artist, Johnny Boyle, whose works can fetch up to several thousand euro.
“Titled ‘Rosbeg Pier, Low Tide’ (main pic), it was unseen by anyone and went on a blind bid to the highest bidder for over one hundred euro – a beautiful piece at a great price,” Claire added.
All the proceeds from the auction will be split equally between both charities.
“A massive thanks to Kevin Dunleavy for his auctioneers skills on the night, Phelim Dunleavy for the phone bids, Catherine, Lara and Maeve McCready for their hard on keeping records of all the buyers and prices of sales, Paula Mc Mullan for raffle ticket selling, and finally, Nancy’s Bar Ardara for the venue. Roll on next year’s auction.”
