Donegal ultrarunner Chris Toner took eighth place in the Istria 100 UTMB World Series adventure race in Croatia last weekend.
Toner conquered the challenging 168km course against 369 athletes from around the world and finished in a time of 22 hours, 47 minutes and 23 seconds. He ranked third place in the Mens 40-44 category.
The Istria 100, with an elevation gain of +6600m is the hardest and most beautiful trail running course in north west Croatia. The elite 100+ mile course is so tough that more than 100 participants did not finish this year.

Toner navigated the difficult and technical terrain with only a brief 30-minute break in a relentless 22-hour effort. A navigational error cost him an additional 3 kilometres, but Toner faced down 20C heat and 10 hours of Achilles pain to make it to the finish line.
This is Toner’s first UTMB race of 2025, having completed seven events at home and abroad in 2024.
Toner trains under the guidance of Coach Rene Borg of Running Coach Ireland, and with invaluable support from Danny Mooney (LAC).
Toner, from Manorcunningham and now living in Letterkenny, is also a well-known footballer who togged out for many local clubs.
