Man admits threatening to publish intimate images of woman

April 13, 2025

A man has pleaded guilty in a Donegal court to threatening to publish or distribute intimate images of a woman.

Luke McGrath tendered a guilty plea at Donegal Circuit Court.

The 24-year-old appeared before Judge John Aylmer and spoke only to plead guilty.

McGrath, with an address at Market Square, Dunshaughlin, Co Meath, was charged with threatening to publish or distribute intimate images without consent of another person with intent to cause harm or being reckless as to whether or not harm was caused to another person.

The charge is contrary to section 2 of the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act, 2020.

The offence relates to an incident on July 5, 2021 at an unknown location within the State.

McGrath was represented by barrister Mr Patrick Jackson BL, instructed by Ms Nuala Eustace solicitor.

Mr Jackson asked the court to note his client’s early plea, which he said was tendered at the earliest opportunity.

The barrister added that there are “complexities” and a “lot of medical vulnerabilities” with the accused man.

Judge Aylmer adjourned the case until the December sitting of Donegal Circuit Court.

Legal aid was extended to cover such professional reports as may be deemed necessary.
