Mountcharles man pleads guilty to false imprisonment and threatening to kill Garda

A Mountcharles man had pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning a woman, dangerous driving and making threats to kill a Garda.

Ciaran Burke of Drumduff, Mountcharles, appeared before Donegal Circuit Court.

All the charges relate to an incident on December 18th, 2021.

Burke, aged 55, spoke only to plead guilty to the three charges put to him in court.

He was first charged that on December 18th, 2021 in a car within county Donegal, he did falsely imprison a Jennifer Sweeney.

Burke was also charged with dangerous driving on the N56 road at Drumbeagh, Mountcharles on the same date.

On the same date at Drumduff, Inver, Burke was charged with making a threat to kill Garda James Connolly.

Barrister for Burke, Mr Peter Nolan, told the court that his client had no previous convictions.

He added that at the time of the incident in December, 2021, the accused man was under a psychiatric strain and asked the court to extend the legal aid certificate to include a report from a psychiatrist.

Mr Nolan also asked also requested for the legal aid certificate to be extended to include a GP’s report as Burke also has some other health difficulties.

Judge John Aylmer ordered a probation report to include the suitability of community service in the case and also extended the legal aid certificate for a psychiatrist.

The case was adjourned until the next sessions of the circuit court for sentence finalisation.
