A man has pleaded guilty to charges of endangerment, assault causing harm and possession of a knife.
Charlie McDonagh appeared at Donegal Circuit Court to plead guilty to three charges arising out of an incident at TJ Hughes Service Station, Cloghore, Ballyshannon on May 6, 2023.
A 43-year-old, with address at Oak Lane, Billericay, Essex, London, and Silverwood, Ballybofey, McDonagh spoke only to plead guilty when he was formally arraigned before Judge John Aylmer.
McDonagh pleaded guilty to a charge of endangerment in that he intentionally or recklessly engages in conduct, namely driving a VW Golf with false plates into the rear of a vehicle being driven by Patrick Joseph Ward, creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another person.
McDonagh also pleaded guilty to assaulting Patrick Joseph Ward and causing him harm.
He pleaded guilty to a further charge of having in his possession in a public place an article, namely a knife, intended by him unlawfully to cause injury to, incapacitate or intimidate another person.
Mr Pat O’Sullivan BL, barrister for McDonagh, instructed by Morgan Coleman Solicitors, asked that the matter be adjourned to allow for the preparation of a probation report.
Judge John Aylmer sought the preparation of a report, to include an assessment on McDonagh’s suitability for community service.
The case was adjourned to the next session of Donegal Circuit Court.
Previously, McDonagh was released on bail of €10,000 own bond and a further €10,000 independent surety.
Under the terms of bail, McDonagh must stay out of Ballyshannon and reside at an address in Essex. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim or any witnesses in the case.
