Letterkenny Golf Club Notes:
The world-famous Claret Jug arrives at Letterkenny Golf Club for an exclusive photo opportunity on Saturday, 12th April at 10:30 am sharp! This is a unique and prestigious opportunity for members, local golf enthusiasts, and the wider community to witness this legendary piece of sporting history up close. “We are absolutely delighted and honoured to host the Claret Jug here at Letterkenny Golf Club”, said Declan Burke, Club Captain. “This is a momentous occasion for our club, and we are encouraging everyone to come along and be part of this special event”.
Congratulations to Donie Costigan on his one-shot victory over Charles McHugh in our recent Wednesday Open. In fine scoring conditions, Donie’s birdies on the fifth and eleventh allowed him to clinch the title. Charles McHugh was on form in second place, and he was closely followed by the steady Dessie Ferry in third. As the first major of the year approaches, the Voucher Competition, a fine one under back nine from the excellent David McGowan, has set him up well for a run at that competition. Great shooting, David!
Nicholas Kenny won the first Saturday Open of April with a superb score of 42 points. Three excellent birdies in his round allowed Nicholas to fend off the challenge from the in-form golfer at Barnhill, David McGowan. His outstanding level-par round of 41 points was a privilege to witness, according to his playing partners. As stated above, the first major of 2025 is only around the corner! Declan Carr’s tidy score of 39 points ensured his place on the podium in third place.
In our first Golfer of the Year competition, the brilliant Philip Friel blitzed the field on his way to a three-shot triumph in our Sunday Stroke Competition. His nett score of 70 was simply an outstanding round of golf in ideal conditions. Martin Kelly was runner-up with a nett score of 73, beating Ciaran Brogan on a break of tie. A fine birdie on the thirteenth was crucial for Martin’s second-place finish. This competition is the ultimate challenge on our golf course, and we are encouraging as many members as possible to take part. Let’s see who will be the Golfer of the Year in late autumn. For now, the lead belongs to Philip!
Congratulations to the winners of our club winter quiz!
