The Biddys O’Barnes pub owners have expressed deep gratitude for the efforts of emergency services following a massive fire on Barnesmore mountain last night.
The fire broke out at around 6pm on Sunday evening, prompting a massive response by Donegal County Council fire services and gardaí.
Emergency workers and volunteers worked through the night to bring the blaze under control by this morning.
“We’re incredibly relieved that the homes of our neighbours, staff, and customers remain safe. We can’t thank the emergency services enough, and we’re so grateful for the strength and support of our community during this time,” said a post from the Biddys O’Barnes team, who witnessed the fire just across the road from the historic pub.
Meanwhile, the Townawilly Community Centre will be open today for firefighters and volunteers to access the amenities. Tea/coffee and refreshments will be made available.
A notice from the community centre said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by the gorse fire on Barnesmore mountain which took hold yesterday.
“Our gratitude go out to all the firefighters, 1st responders and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control and to protect livestock and lands.”
