More than 6,000 planned surgeries and appointments were cancelled at Letterkenny University Hospital last year to cope with overcrowding and other pressures.
LUH had a total of 6,132 appointments cut at various points throughout 2024.
Elective surgeries become affected when there is overcrowding as a result of emergency waiting times and Covid/outbreak issues. Urgent, time sensitive cases are always prioritised at the hospital when there is pressure on bed availability.
Figures provided to Social Democrats TD Cian O’Callaghan show that more than 276,000 patients had planned surgeries and appointments cancelled nationally across Irish hospitals last year.
