A new and original musical based on Donegal’s All-Ireland triumphs in 1992 and 2012 will hit the stage in Glenties next week.
Written by local man, Billy MacInnes, ‘Hometown Girls’ will be performed in the town’s Market Hall.
Interestingly, the cast will include a member of the 92′ team making his stage debut!
It is a brand new show with original country and folk songs set against the backdrop of Donegal’s two All-Ireland victories. The show tells the story of three childhood friends Grainne, Meath and Niamh, their lives, loves and heartbreaks and the town they were brought up in, across the span of 20 years.

Some of the cast busy at rehearsals this week.
The musical showcases the sheer joy felt by the people following Donegal’s all-Ireland triumphs. Not only can it lay claim to being one of the first musicals about Donegal’s All-Irelands, but it is also probably one of the first to feature completely original country and folk songs (this is not a ‘jukebox’ musical).
“We have assembled some terrific talent, young and old, from Glenties, Ardara, and surrounding areas to perform in the show, some of whom have never acted before,” MacInnes explains.
“We even have a member of the 1992 panel making his debut on the stage!”
MacInnes has lived in Donegal for over 20 years and this, he said, is his first opportunity to try and give something back to our great county and its wonderful people, based on things that they love and appreciate. As well as being his first musical, it’s the directorial debut for his wife, Maria, who was born and raised in Glenties and has acted in many local productions.
‘Hometown Girls’ is being performed at the Market Hall, Glenties, on April 10, 11 and 12. The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are €15. Concessions: €10. They can be purchased in The Cope, Glenties, or you can pay at the door.
