A man caught speeding at 123km/h on the dual carriageway out of Letterkenny has been put off the road after being convicted of drug-driving.
Neil Lawson was not present in court and had no legal representation when his case was called at Letterkenny District Court.
Garda Stephen Joseph Carroll gave evidence of the case against the 36-year-old, with an address at Ballydesland Road, Warrenpoint, Newry.
Garda Carroll told how, at 4.04pm on July 11, 2023, he intercepted a white Ford Transit van, which was travelling at a speed of 123km/h on the outbound lane of the dual carriageway at Rossbracken.
At Raymoghey, Garda Carroll signalled for the vehicle to stop. He spoke to the driver, Lawson, who handed him a full UK driving licence.
Garda Carroll suspected that the driver was under the influence of an intoxicant.
While Lawson passed a roadside breath test, he failed a subsequent oral fluid test. Lawson tested positive for the presence of cannabis.
He was arrested and conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station, where a blood sample was taken by a designated nurse.
This subsequently returned positive for cannabis.
For the speeding offence, Lawson was fined €350 by Judge Éiteáin Cunningham.
Lawson was also fined €200 for drug-driving and disqualified from driving for one year.
Recognisance, in the event of an appeal, was fixed at €500, with €250 to be lodged.
