The Cloughaneely Band’s performance at the Donegal-Derry Ulster game this Sunday will carry extra emotion as they honour the late Enya McMurrough.
Both the Junior and Senior band have been invited by Ulster GAA to lead the pre-match parade at MacCumhaill Park.
It will be an emotional day for all, as it marks the first summer championship game since Enya’s passing.
Thirteen-year-old Enya, from Gortahork and the beloved daughter of band member Fionnuala, passed away suddenly in February.
Enya was an enthusiastic Donegal GAA supporter who relished every opportunity to don her county colours and meet the players.
The Cloughaneely band said: “She loved playing at the football matches last summer and especially when Donegal was on the field. She will be with us every step of the way on Sunday. Dún na nGall Abú.”
In March, the Cloughaneely Senior Band also poignantly marked the loss of three dearly departed members as they took part in the New York St Patrick’s Day parade.
Melodies rang out through the Big Apple in tribute to Enya as well as young local men Jamie Diver and Shaun Martin McClafferty, who lost their lives in a tragic collision on 28th February. The young men’s mothers, Roise and Sharon, are both proud members of the band also.
