An inspirational Castlefin teen is stepping up to a walking challenge for charity after beating cancer.
Fourteen year old Maisie Simpson was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in March last year. After a difficult year of chemotherapy, she is thankfully in remission.
Now Maisie is determined to give back to the organisation that supported her and her parents, Louise and Paul, during their most challenging time.
Throughout April, Maisie has pledged to walk either 5k or 10,000 steps every day, aiming to raise as much money as possible for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie. The charity provides vital hotel accommodation for families with children undergoing cancer treatment at Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin.
For the Simpson family, Aoibheann’s Pink Tie was a lifeline as it provided practical support.

Maisie’s cancer journey began after seven months of unexplained chest pains from August 2023. When she was eventually diagnosed on 29th March, she said it was the “scariest day of my life”.
“I am in remission from the cancer now, but unfortunately because of some lasting side effects and check ups I still attend Crumlin regularly, and will continue to do so until I am 18. This charity continues to help and support my family,” Maisie said.

Maisie Simpson is now in remission from cancer.
Last year, the local community rallied around the Simpsons by organising a hugely successful fundraiser that raised thousands to help cover the costs of their stays in Dublin. This outpouring of support has inspired Maisie to pay it forward.
Maisie said: “Everyone was so generous to us during my illness, and I don’t like to ask, but one last time, could anyone that can, please please please donate, as much or as little as they possibly can to this amazing charity. Any money raised goes straight to them, as little as €1 makes a difference! “
