A man who grabbed a woman by the hair and punched her during an incident in Ballybofey has been convicted and fined €200.

Gabriel Maxim (36) was before Letterkenny District Court in connection with the incident which occurred on September 23, 2024.

Maxim, of College Court, Ballybofey, was charged with assault and causing criminal damage.

Inspector Seamus McGonigle told the court that just after midnight gardai were called to an incident at The Park, Blue Cedars.

The defendant was said to have arrived at the location and became involved in an argument with a woman. Inspector McGonigle said Maxim proceeded to grab the woman by the hair and punched her to the side of the head.

He was ushered out of the premises due to what the court heard was his “extremely threatening and aggressive behaviour”.

Maxim smashed the outer pane of glass in a kitchen window and also damaged a kitchen table and chairs. Approximately €500 worth of damage was caused in the incident.

Maxim has no previous convictions and his solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, told the court there has been no further interaction with the gardai since the incident.

On each of the two charges, Judge Ciaran Liddy fined Maxim €200.
