The present condition of the public toilets in Donegal Town has been described as ‘a disgrace’ and ‘awful.’
The matter was raised by Councillor Micheal Naughton at yesterday’s monthly meeting of Donegal County Council.
“The state of the public toilets in Donegal Town is awful and the council said there is no money to upgrade them,” he said.
“We’re either operating public conveniences, or we’re not.”
Cllr Jimmy Brogan also described the toilet block as ‘a disgrace’, adding they “must be made a more inviting place”.
Inishowen Councillor, Martin Farren, pointed out there are issues with public toilets all around the county and they need to be “in good nick”.
Cllr Naughton agreed, but added that Donegal is one of the ‘premier tourist towns’ in the county.
The Council’s Director of Water and Environment, Michael McGarvey, responded: “We want to have world class facilities, but it is a resource issue”.
