Michael Boyle has formally been appointed as the newest member of Donegal County Council.
The Fine Gael man replaced his brother, Manus, as a councillor in the Donegal Municipal District at a full meeting of the council this morning.
Michael was selected by local Fine Gael members to fill the slot, after Manus Boyle was recently selected by Tánaiste Simon Harris to become a Senator, and Spokesperson for Fisheries and the Marine in the Seanad.
Michael, being co-opted onto the council, makes it a family affair for the Boyles. He replaced brother Manus and followed in the footsteps of his father, John, who was also a former County Councillor.
His co-option was proposed and seconded by his party colleagues, namely, Cllr Martin Harley and Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh.
The new councillor was given a warm welcome by his fellow members on the council as well as council staff.
Addressing the chamber, Cllr Boyle said he’s known as a hard worker and will co-operate with all his colleagues and council staff.
“I’m the third Boyle from Corkermore to become a councillor,” he said.
“Charlie Bennet was also reared in our house too, so I’m the fourth from that tiny townland. I am a hard worker and am committed to working with all of you.”
