Donegal has been ranked as Ireland’s fifth top filming location for movies and TV shows.
Up here it’s different, and film producers have been loving the wild north west landscape for decades.
From the dramatic backdrop of Malin Head in ‘Star Wars VIII’, to the breathtaking Glencolmcille coastline in ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’, Donegal has added plenty of natural drama to the blockbusters of late.
Virgin Media Ireland, Ireland’s leading telecommunications and entertainment provider, conducted research analysing over 250 top movies and TV shows filmed in Ireland using IMDb data to reveal the most popular filming locations.
Donegal ranks fifth, proving it’s not only a great place for filming but also a rising spot for actors like Art Parkinson, best known for his role in the popular TV show Game of Thrones and Disney+ Troubles-set drama Say Nothing.
Dublin, Wicklow, Cork and Galway come before Donegal on the list.
Donegal ranks with 13 productions, drawing attention to its wild, untamed landscapes. Movie action was reported in Buncrana as recently as last week, as Oscar-nominated actor Ciarán Hinds was spotted working on a new Irish film, titled The Man with the Urn.
