Michael Boyle has been selected to become the newest memebr of Donegal County Council.
The Fine Gael man will replace his brother, Manus, as a Councillor in the Donegal Municipal District.
Michael was selected by local Fine Gael members to fill the slot, after Manus Boyle was recently selected by Tánaiste Simon Harris to become a Senator, and Spokesperson for Fisheries and the Marine in the Seanad.
Former Councillor Barry Sweeny was also in the running for the vacant council position before Michael was selected.
Michael being co-opted onto Donegal County Council truly makes it a family affair for the Boyles, replacing brother Manus and following in the footsteps of his father, John, who was also a former County Councillor.
Manus wished his brother the best in the role after the announcement was made last night.
“Delighted to share the great news that my brother, Micheal, has won the vote at tonight’s convention and will now take up the position of Councillor, filling the seat left vacant by my elevation to the Seanad. This is a proud day for me and the entire Boyle family,” Manus said.
“Our father, John, who dedicated many years as a County Councillor and laid the foundations for our work, is bursting with pride and happiness.”
“I also want to acknowledge Barry Sweeny, a valued member of Fine Gael, who put up a strong fight for the position. He is a great friend of the Boyle family, and I wish him every success in the future.”
“Now, as we enter this new chapter, I am confident that with Micheal serving at Co Council level and me in the Seanad, we can work together to deliver great things for Co Donegal.”
