Ben Harkin has been voted in as Chairperson of Ógra Fianna Fáil in Donegal.
The election took place at the AGM on Tuesday.
Ben, 23, is a commercial analyst based in Termon and recently contested the Fianna Fáil selection convention for the Donegal General Election constituency. India Kennedy, Colm Gallagher, and Cian Blake will also take up new roles on the Ard Comhairle
Tributes were paid to outgoing Chairperson Susan Meehan after serving two terms in the role. Susan announced she would be stepping down from the Ard Comhairle to concentrate her efforts on senior party politics. The meeting also heard praise for Ógra Fianna Fáil’s contribution to the party’s recent electoral successes.
In the 2024 Local Elections, Fianna Fáil received the highest party vote in County Donegal, outpolling Sinn Féin by 17,500 to 16,500. Fianna Fáil was also the only political party to elect a councillor in each of the local electoral areas in County Donegal, an indication of the hard work of elected officials and the grassroots membership.
Subsequently, Outgoing Minister Charlie McConalogue TD was returned to Dáil Éireann along with former Leas Cheann Comhairle, Pat The Cope Gallagher TD, in another triumph for Fianna Fáil in Donegal.
“The new Ógra Fianna Fáil Ard Comhairle look forward to the year ahead and have set expanding their membership as a top priority,” a spokesperson said.
On 10th May, Ógra Fianna Fáil members in Donegal will climb Mount Errigal as part of the Darkness Into Light 2025.
