Press photographer Joe Boland will this week open a photographic exhibition of unfiltered moments from Donegal through the decades.
“A Day in the Life – Donegal” shows people at the heart of local life, as captured by the Lifford lensman.
This collection provides a powerful and heartfelt view into Donegal while presenting its people and landscapes with genuine warmth.
Through his sharp storytelling vision Joe Boland immortalises Donegal’s everyday life while highlighting its perseverance and distinctive culture.
A former member of the Irish Defence Forces, Joe has worked as a professional photographer for the past three decades and was a staff photographer with the Derry Journal.
He is now a freelance photographer and his work appears across all media in Donegal including Donegal Daily as well as in the national press.
As well as being a keen Finn Harps fan, Joe is a noted wildlife photographer.
In his many guises, he is also a noted volunteer and renowned across Donegal for giving his free time to local causes.
Joe Boland’s photographs show Donegal’s spirit through everyday people like hardworking hairdressers and artisans as well as musicians and daily commuters. These photos serve as timeless captures that maintain the fundamental spirit of a location steeped in historical significance and communal life.
This exhibition goes beyond photography by functioning as a living archive that lets viewers explore a world where daily life meets remarkable moments. Boland’s work invites us to stop and find beauty in everyday scenes, whether they are quiet streets or windswept shores.
Explore the visual journey curated by one of Donegal’s finest storytellers during this exhibition at Cara House Family Resource Centre in Letterkenny in association with Donegal Public Participation Network. Exhibition free to visit from Friday 28th March to 15th April.
