The Letterkenny Chamber has confirmed that there will be no alternative parade in the town this year following the cancellation of St Patrick’s Day events.
The St Patrick’s Day parade was cancelled this year following a fatal collision in the town on the morning of 17th March. Local man Anthony Gallagher, who lost his life in the tragic incident, was laid to rest on Thursday last.
The Leterkenny Chamber said it had multiple requests to reschedule the St. Patrick’s Day Parade to Easter. However, the parade committee have announced that it is not feasible due to the “cost and safety implications for both the business community and participants”.
“We understand the need to cancel this year’s event was disappointing for everyone who had planned to take part, as well as the many volunteers, community groups, and organisers who had put so much work in behind the scenes,” said a statement.
“We’re incredibly grateful for your continued support—and we now look forward to the rest of this year’s events with renewed energy and community spirit.”
