A Donegal man will walk the Portuguese section of the famous Camino de Santiago next month in memory of his late father.
Garret Wilson (main pic) from Milford will make the 245 km trek, along with friend Gary Ryan, to raise as much funds as possible for the Donegal Hospice.
They have decided to do the pilgrimage in memory of Garret’s father, John Wilson, who passed away in January of last year.
“All the money donated goes directly to the hospice,” Garrett told Donegal Daily.
“We are paying all costs of the trip ourselves, leaving anything that is donated to the fundraiser going to the hospice.”
You can donate to the fundraiser at the following LINK.

The late John Wilson.
All through his life, the late Mr Wilson kept himself fit having completed three Dublin marathons and had a love for hillwalking.
Walking the Camino De Santiago was something he often talked about, and wished he did, but unfortunately as his health deteriorated he never got to do it.
However, he persuaded his son to walk the last 115 km of the French Camino last year so that he could get his Compostela (certificate).
“Last summer, after a period of time spent in the hospice, he came up with this idea of walking the Camino to raise money for the Donegal Hospice,” Garret explains.
“Unfortunately, he never got to organise this and passed away in The Donegal Hospice on 19 th of October 24. So here we are. Myself and a very good friend, Gary Ryan, fly out to Portugal on the 22nd of April and begin on the 23rd in Porto to walk the 245 km to Santiago De Compostela in Spain.”
The quality of life his father had up until he passed away would not have been possible, only for the hospice and all the staff working there, Garret stressed.
There are a lot of people in the background helping out with the fundraising who Garret and Gary would like to thank, along with everyone who has donated up to now.
People can contribute through their Idonate page and any donations will be gratefully accepted.
They will be updating their progress daily along the 245 kms to Santiago, and would appreciate it if people would follow their Facebook page.
