Two of Donegal’s culinary gems have maintained their places on the prestigious Sunday Times 100 Best Restaurants list.
The Olde Glen Bar and Fisk Seafood Bar in Downings have been listed again as the highlights of Donegal’s food scene.
The influential guide is created by Sally and John McKenna of the McKennas Guides.
“No visit to Co Donegal is complete without a visit to Fisk Seafood Bar,” they said of Tony Davidson and Lina Reppert’s restaurant at The Harbour Bar.
The guide praises Chef Davidson’s imagination and flair for adding Mexican flavours to the seafood.
The Olde Glen Bar in Glen village, with local man Chef Ciarán Sweeney at the helm, is also listed in the Michelin Guide.
Here, the McKennas say that Sweeney’s “culinary sorcery” is the secret to enticing 80 diners to “the back of beyond” each evening.
“It’s a long way to Carrigart, but no journey was ever so well worth the detour,” says the guide.
Also on the list is Mister S in Dublin, which was lauded for its meat from Ballybofey. The Camden Street restaurant is supplied by dry aging specialist Shane McConnell of McConnell’s butchers, and the McKennas highly recommend the dry-aged côte de boeuf for two, with béarnaise. A cut above the rest!
