Killybegs based Jayden McBrearty made history in Ireland’s National racing circuit Mondello winning the Rallysport Association IRL Winter Mini Cup and Junior Mini Series.
This comes following similar success last weekend in Northern Ireland’s Nutts Corner track where Jayden finished second place to win The Rallysport Association NI Winter Mini Cup and Junior Mini Cup as well.
This is the first time in history a driver has won the very popular and hotly contested Mini Cup and Junior Mini Cup in the same year both sides of the borders.
This is a credit to 14 year old Jayden who has impressed all year with a string of podium finishes in both championships racing against an average field of 20 Minis and just missed out today on taking the overall Mini Cup.
McBreatry’s talents drew attention last year in his Rookie year where he was invited to apply for the prestigious ICCR young driver scholarship where 21 of Ireland’s most talented young drivers spent a gruelling test day in Mondello being put through their paces in side and outside of the car to win 3 scholarships to compete in the ICCR Mini Cup.
This was a massive step up for the young driver entering circuit racing for the first time.
To compete in the ICCR Championship a brand new car had to be built for the ICCR series to match very technical single FAI regulations.
This was a major investment for the young driver and would not have happened with out the support of his ever growing sponsors, POD-Trak, KER Group, Trailerstuff.ie, Mooney Boats, JFS Crash Repairs, John’s Auto Services, Finol, CBM Signs.ie, TC Promotions and The Stables Motorsport Centre who all supported Jayden and his small team over there first year with both financial support and professional development days with the top elite of international motorsport Eamonn Kelly JWRC driver, Max Hart, FIA World Touring driver and Alex Denning, official Mc Laren GT4 Racing Driver.
Circuit racing means racing wheel to wheel with your competitors similar to touring cars and F1 with racing happening over a weekend format consisting of test sessions and qualifying sessions to determine your place on the grid before race day.
Racing then can be the best results over a number of heats (races) While this was all new for Jayden coming from the RSA that use stage timing like stage Rallies and the popular Donegal International rally where you race the stage clock Jayden had to learn race craft dealing with other cars on the track competing for the same front row and racing lines in identical cars. Jayden took on the challenge and had a successful rookie season in circuit racing reaching the podium in the ICCR championship.
Commenting on Jayden’s future prospects Alex Denning, official Mc Laren GT4 Racing Driver stated “I coached Jayden for the 2024 season with great success. For me, it is not always about outright pace and results from the get go. It is about determination, applying yourself and continuous improvement. Jayden excelled in these three areas this year and consequently, the results started to massively improve also. He is young and ambitious and with the right support going forward, Jayden has the potential to go places with his racing”
McBreatry has a busy 2025 planned with a return to the ICCR Mini Cup planned among other challenges subject to securing sponsorship budgets and looks forward to making more announcements soon.
