Pope Francis has made his first public appearance in five weeks today.
He waved and made a short address to the public from a balcony at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.
The 88-year-old Pontiff is expected to be released from hospital later today.
Vatican officals say that the Pope has made sufficient improvement to continue his recovery from home, but still may face a recovery period of at least two months.
The Pope will not be returning to his usual duties immediately during this time, however.
Concerns for the aging pontiff’s health have raised questions as to whether he should step down from his role like his predecessor, Pope Benedict, did in 2013.
