This Saturday sees Illistrin FC U14 team aim to make history within the club as they take on Cork side Wilton United at Corry Park in the last 16 of the SFAI Subway National Cup.
A place in the Quarter finals of the Nationals awaits the winners as Illistrin are trying to go one better than they have done on any previous year in the clubs almost 50 year history.
Illistrin secured a home fixture for this weekend’s clash following their impressive win in Kilkenny on the 8th of February.
This team, under the stewardship of Seamus Murphy ably assisted by Ciaran McElwaine and Michael McGlynn, had battled through the early rounds of the competition in the autumn of 2024.

Having then beaten Bonagee United in the Ulster final back in January ‘25- the boys made their way into the National Cup phase.
They made the long trip to Kilkenny to play Evergreen FC in the last 32 back in February– where the boys pulled off a fantastic 0-2 away victory.
Seamus wanted to pay particular thanks to club sponsor Kernans, along with additional match sponsors Albert Strain & Associates and Donna Ponsonby Solicitors who all assisted in making that trip of lifetime a reality for the boys.
Seamus added “That away trip (to Kilkenny) in particular wouldn’t have happened without their support, and we’re very grateful to those businesses who stepped up to ensure we could travel down such a long way.”
Seamus said: “The boys are really enjoying this run in the competition, as are we all! There is a real buzz around training these past few weeks with everyone fully engaged and excited about the prospects of what lies ahead.”
He added “It’s a pleasure to be around these boys and considering how hard they have worked; they deserve every bit of success they get.”
Club chairman Annraoi Cheevers added “on behalf of everyone from the club we want to congratulate these boys and their coaches on a fantastic run to date in the competition. You’ve done yourselves and the club proud!’ We’re hoping for a huge turnout now this Saturday at Corry Park to cheer on the boys.”
The game takes place at Corry Park, Illistrin and kicks off this Saturday (15th March) at 1pm sharp. All support welcome.
