Strengthening the Donegal-American Diaspora Connection
The visit also underscored the importance of the longstanding ties between Donegal and the Irish-American community. Generations of Donegal emigrants have contributed to industries, businesses, and labour movements across the United States, forming a network that continues to benefit both regions.
By fostering these transatlantic relationships, Donegal can enhance economic opportunities, attract investment, and celebrate the shared heritage that unites communities across the ocean.
In discussing economic development, Mr. O’Brien also highlighted the importance of collaboration between Irish and international business communities.
He said “Donegal has a rich history of enterprise and innovation,” he stated. “By strengthening connections between labour organizations, businesses, and government agencies, we can create new opportunities for economic growth that benefit workers and industries on both sides of the Atlantic.”
The reception concluded with a presentation to Mr. O’Brien, recognizing his leadership and ongoing commitment to workers’ rights worldwide. Attendees also engaged in discussions on economic development, labour relations, and strengthening transatlantic connections.
Mr. O’Brien was presented with a scroll commemorating the visit and a selection of books on the history of the Inishowen area.
