Major south Donegal gorse fire brought under control

Fire services from both sides of the border successfully tackled a major blaze on bogland near Pettigo at the weekend.

The incident took place on Sunday evening in the townland of Fincashel, around five kilometres from Pettigo on the Laghey Road.

A number of units from south Donegal and Fermanagh managed to bring the fire under control last night, saving around 100 acres of forest from going up in flames. A spokesperson for Coillte told Donegal Daily that, luckily, no damage was caused to their plantation.

We have contacted both the Donegal Fire Service and the Northern Ireland Fire Service for comment.
