Twenty-two community centres in Donegal have been awarded funding under the Community Centres Investment Fund.
Grants of up to €100,000 have been allocated locally, with the Donegal Family Resource Centre, Bundoran Community Centre and Castlefinn Partnership Community Centre receiving the highest allocations. See below for full list.
The scheme is specifically for refurbishment and improvements of existing community centres.
Fianna Fáil TD Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the €1.33 million total allocated to Donegal projects and said: “Community centres right across the county need financial support and assistance, these centres are costly to maintain and support throughout the year, yet they are key to the very heart of rural community life, this scheme aims to help communities upkeep and support their community asset.
“Today is a welcome announcement from Minister Dara Calleary who has wasted no time since his appointment in approving these important grant allocations.
“This is a scheme that requires additional funding in the years ahead, as the scheme was under massive pressure due to the number of applications,” Deputy Gallagher said.
