Deputy Charles Ward has said that he stands in full support of the Letterkenny Fire Service.
Fire fighters have launched a campaign against proposed cuts they say will threaten the safety of the local community.
These include the proposed removal of a second fire engine, water tanker, and the incident command vehicle, along with a reduction of officer numbers.
“This will have a devastating impact on emergency response times and the ability to protect lives and property in Letterkenny and surrounding areas,” Deputy Ward said.
Firefighters put their lives on the line daily to safeguard the public. These cuts will severely
limit their ability to respond effectively to fires, road accidents, and other emergencies,
putting both firefighters and residents at unnecessary risk.”
The 100% Redress Party TD said Letterkenny Fire Station is a critical emergency service provider, and reducing its resources is ‘not an option’ when public safety is at stake.
“I urge the government to listen to the professional expertise of those on the front line and reverse these dangerous proposals immediately,” he added.
“The people of Letterkenny deserve a fully resourced fire service that can respond swiftly and effectively in times of crisis. I encourage everyone to support the firefighters’ petition and stand with them in protecting this vital service.”
