A new charity has been launched to support those left behind after fatal road accidents in County Donegal and Northern Ireland.
Road Victim Support Northern Ireland-Donegal are officially launching their activities through two events at the end of this month.
The charity is aiming to support families in the aftermatch of losing a loved one in a fatal road traffic collision.
“With the rising number of road fatalities across Northern Ireland and Donegal, our initiative is launching at a crucial time to provide much-needed support,” the charity said ahead of its launch events.
“What makes this initiative unique is that everyone involved comes from a lived experience of loss, allowing us to offer genuine, compassionate, and specialized care.”
Some of the work the charity intends to do includes founding a men’s support group, “Men’s Time To Talk”, which will offer a space for men to process their grief.
Specialist trauma and bereavement counsellor Debbie Mullan, who lost her own son Keelan 12 years ago, is developing an early intervention care package for the charity to ensure that every affected family member receives the right support.
The charity is also launching a family-focused initiative, led by Marie O’Brien, called “It’s Not Your Story to Tell.”
The initiative will raise awareness about the impact of sharing crash site images and early death announcements on social media, to highlight the trauma it can cause to families that are already in turmoil.
