Donegal pair expected to receive mandatory life sentences today for murder at Sliabh Liag

March 7, 2025

A Donegal couple found guilty of murder are today expected to be handed life sentences at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Alan Vial (39) of Drumanoo Head, Killybegs, and Nikita Burns (23) from An Charraig, both denied the murder of Robert Wilkin, who was also known as Robin, on 25 June, 2023.

But a jury yesterday found the pair guilty of murdering the 66-year-old man who was “alive or dead” when he was thrown off Sliabh Liag cliffs.

The body of the County Tyrone man was found eight days later in the sea at the foot of the famous cliffs.

Judge Paul McDermot is expected to deliver his sentences at noon today.
