Donegal GAA received another huge boost today with confirmation that Karl Lacey is to return as ‘Performance Lead’ of the academy.
Earlier this week the 2012 All-Ireland winner, and Donegal’s most decorated footballer, was named as manager of the county U16s. He stepped down as manager of Down champions, Kilcoo, in January.
“CLG Dhūn na nGall are delighted to announce the appointment of Karl Lacey as County Performance Lead to our academy,” the County Board confirmed within the last hour.
“As such, Karl will lead the delivery of the National Strategy to improve the quality, coherence and consistency of player and coach development within our county, and will operate within a national approach to align both the Gaelic Games Player and Coach Pathways. Part of the long-term view is to enhance coach education for all units; club, coaches, etc. We wish Karl every success in his new role and for his future with Donegal GAA.”
The Four Masters clubman resigned as head of the academy in 2023, citing “a lack of support.”
