Sheephaven Divers were back at Campbells Bed in Mulroy Bay on Saturday morning, thanks to James Clay who towed and provided Dry Coxswain duties.
Weather conditions were excellent, with clear skies and no wind, producing a flat calm sea surface until the journey came to the Second and Third Narrows were the ebbing tide was flowing furiously out to sea.
In-water conditions were cold at 6 degrees Celsius, with less than 10 metres horizontal visibility, but this did not impede us in a 35 min dive to nearly 20m.
Once again we were impressed with the range of marine life on and adjacent to the reef, with a number of large Brown Crabs observed, along with Scallops, Devonshire Cup Coral and many different types of sea squirts and tube anemones.
On Sunday morning Sheephaven Snorkelers were also in the sea even though in-water conditions aren’t perfect, with a big swell rolling into PortnaBlagh harbour from the north.
The snorkelers did their drills, practiced their duck dives and some even attempted a surf the big waves.
While in-water visibility was poor it was great just to be able to get into the water all the same.
