Vatican officials say that Pope Francis had a “peaceful” night last night, following an additional health scare on Friday.
Pope Francis remains in hospital in Rome for what is now the 17th day, as he continues to battle double pneumonia.
The Vatican said on Saturday night that his condition had stabilised, after what they described as an “isolated” breathing issue which occurred on Friday – and is believed to have been similar to an asthma attack.
While his condition had stabilised, any prognosis remained guarded.
This morning, Vatican officials provided a one-line update, stating simply that “The night was peaceful, the Pope is still resting.”
More details regarding the Pope’s condition are expected to be released later today.
The 17-day stay in hospital also marks the longest stint in the 88-year-old Pontiff’s papacy away from public view.
