Donegal 1-22 v 1-19 Derry
A gritty Donegal performance saw Donegal squeeze past Derry in an inspired late comeback at the Fr Tierney Park in Ballyshannon this afternoon.
Derry maintained a lead for the majority of this contest, building the gap to four points at half-time – leading 0-11 to 0-07.
Derry pressed on their advantage, being ahead by as much as 8 points as the game entered the final 15 minutes of play – Derry ahead 1-18 to 0-13.
However Jim McGuinness’s men showed their trademark grit and determination just as it seemed like all was lost for the second week in a row.
Daire O Baoill began the fightback with a superbly struck two-pointer, and a free from Donegal’s talisman Michael Murphy chipped away at the Derry lead further.
Then, a superb strike into the top-left corner of the Derry net from Donegal’s Shane O Donnell gave reduced the deficit to only 3 points with 7 minutes to spare.
Ciaran Thompson’s two-pointer soon brought the gap down to one, before a string of Donegal scores from Conor O Donnell, Ciaran Moore and Daire O Baoill completed a famous comeback win.
