Finn Harps have a long journey home from Limerick tonight after suffering their third successive defeat.
Treaty United 3
Finn Harps 1
Despite another plucky performance from Darren Murphy’s young charges, they went down to Treaty United at the Markets Field.
Harps looked lively for most of the first half with Patrick Ferry, Dara McGuinness and Gavin McAteer causing the home side all sorts of problems.
It appeared that both sides were going to go in scoreless at the break. However, a game of pinball following a Treaty free kick saw the ball break to Evan O’Connor who fired past Oisin Cooney in the Harps goal.
But, the visitors came out fighting on the restart and levelled almost immediately. Mikey Place’s low cross came to McGuinness and he poked home from close range to level the match.
However, two goals in the final 15 minutes saw Harps suffer another crushing defeat.
Mark Byrne’s shot was parried by Cooney and Lee Devitt followed up the rebound. However, Cooney was adjudged to have fouled him and referee Alan Patchell pointed to the spot without hesitation.
Devitt duly converted the penalty, despite Cooney getting his hand to it.
Harps almost found a deserved equaliser when a McAterr free found Max Hutchison whose effort hit off the crossbar with just five minutes on the clock.
Immediately, the home side went on the attack and Richkov Boevi crossed for substitute David Tarmey who bundled home from close range.
Harps remain pointless after three games and face another away trip next week, to UCD
The students lie just above Harps with one point after their draw with Cobh Ramblers.
However, Darren Murphy will be hoping his young side grab at least a draw before the next home game against Cobh at Finn Park on Friday week.
